Current Energy
Earth Day Case Study
To help educate the community on sustainability and encourage habits that support greener living, HCK2 and Current Energy developed a comprehensive community relations program that was fueled by the imaginations of local children.
HCK2 and Current Energy launched a poster contest in 2008 to encourage elementary school students to consider the meaning of Earth Day and educate them on ways to give back to their environment.
“Educate Dallas Earth Day 2008” invited second graders from Dallas elementary schools to design a poster depicting what Earth Day means to them. The children’s posters were then used as the April window displays inside the local Current Energy store. Current Energy executives and the Mayor of Dallas judged the entries, and the company hosted an educational and entertaining “green” pep rally on Earth Day for the winning school and its students.
The one-of-a-kind community event was a hit with media, and the rally received overwhelmingly positive coverage on local network television stations. The exposure led Current Energy to plan an expanded “Educate Dallas Earth Day” event for 2009.
