Has Gap gone to crap?
HCK2 is an agency of many things: creative people, brilliant conversationalists, trendy folk... and a slew of parents.
Yes, we love us some kids, which in a linear universe means we love us some GAP.
They make some of the best children clothes on the planet. Their ensembles are durable, rugged, crease-proof and just about eternal.
Needless to say, we're big fans.
And that's why it pains us to see to the deluge of rotten tomatoes and day-old cabbage hurled in their direction just in time for Columbus Day sales.
The peeps at Advertising Age broke a story about an unfortunate rebranding incident that has been repelled at the speed of text. The Web exploded into a fury of plaid and corduroy. And creative and branding experts alike are none too pleased with these new efforts.
Here it is, much to the chagrin of Gap HQ. (Ta-dah!)
Yeah. WE KNOW!
Aside from commenting on this blog, we encourage a visit to a few links online.
You remember the hubbub @BPGlobalPR created on the Interweb during the tragic oil spill? Please welcome @GapLogo to Twitter. And if you get bored with the gentle musings here, visit Crap Logo online - a site so snazzy that if you fancy the new Gap mark, you make one of your own.
Yep, it's the end of an era, but the fine people who brought you this logo would like to thank the groundswell of bemoanings from their Facebook page:
"Thanks for everyone's input on the new logo! We've had the same logo for 20+ years, and this is just one of the things we're changing. We know this logo created a lot of buzz and we're thrilled to see passionate debates unfolding! So much so we're asking you to share your designs. We love our version, but we'd like to ... see other ideas. Stay tuned for details in the next few days on this crowd sourcing project."
Is this a test balloon waiting for a blow dart? Is this a PR ploy gone way wrong? Who knows about this nefarious "Crowd Sourcing" project. And what if it's all a joke... haha. Joke is on us and stuff.
One thing is clear: It's too bad the makers of Gap didn't think their logo was as durable as the Garanimals they sell. Life would be so much happier right about now.
