A first for me: I like Oprah
It almost pains me to write that, but much to my chagrin, she did something that was so undeniably great, I have to extol a glimmer of greatness.
Check out this unbelievable story from CNN's Marquee Blog (by way of AdAge):
Oprah Winfrey swung by the magazine's offices on Tuesday and handed out to all "O" magazine employees an Apple iPad, a personalized leather iPad carrying case and a check for $10,000, regardless of how long the staffer has been with the publication.
These times are tough... scratch that, they are terrible for the written word. Namely for the people doing the writing, but here comes Oprah straddled across her Gucci-branded and Diamond-encrusted steed through the doors of Hearst doling out bricks of 10 large!
For years, it has been the Oprah show on top. You know, starring Oprah, produced by Oprah, featuring Oprah, brought to you by Oprah, fortunate to be breathing near Oprah. For that, I haven't been the most dedicated fan driving a "free" Pontiac.
However, I would plaster a back windshield of Oprah-brandished bumper stickers on my Smurfmobile hooptie for that kind of cheddar.
I have to give honor where honor is due. Oprah, you rock. Even when the money runs out, the impression you made in the lives of those employees will last forever.
