Boohoo: Mommy bloggers are tired…but wait…I kind of see their point

I love PRWeek. In my weekly quest to gain a greater knowledge of the industry and all its players, I came across this article.

While it annoys me when journalists and bloggers complain about PR professionals (I’m pretty sure we do a lot for them :-) ), we do need to make sure we are sending targeted pitches and that we aren’t annoying.

Case in point…semi-famous mommy blogger, Trisha Haas, has had it with us PR folks. She recently called for mommy bloggers to boycott pitches from August 10 to 16, stating “mommy bloggers are simply doing too much.” In the article Haas adds that she and her fellow bloggers are tired of receiving “inappropriate pitches” from PR professionals they don’t have relationships with.

“If I take more than a day to respond to a PR agency, they will e-mail me back the next day, and when you multiply that by 60 times a day, it can be overwhelming,” added Haas. “If there are 11,000 mommy bloggers out there and 9,000 of them have blogged the pitch about sunglasses, I don't know how real that is.”

Enter the point where I don’t feel sorry for Haas…Now that her campaign has gotten some publicity, she thinks it’s ridiculous that people are describing it as an anti-PR campaign (yeah right…she meant it that way…she’s probably just scared because she angered the people who have helped keep her blog afloat).

Everyone’s targeting bloggers these days, and I think it’s pretty neat to see that they are getting enough attention to where they have started to complain like journalists have for a long time. While again, I don’t feel sorry for them…PR professionals, let’s not bombard the media with e-mails every day and send them irrelevant pitches…it doesn’t help them and it’s really a waste of our time.
