Geocities - We’ll Miss You
Way back when, at a time when font tags ruled the land, there was a free site host called Geocities. Geocities was my, and many others’ first web host back in the 90s before Yahoo! purchased it. It was free, it was personal, and it was great. Geocities, a survivor of the dot com crash in 2001, announced today that they were no longer taking on new subscribers and officially closing down later this year. One of the web community’s original web hosts will be missed, but not forgotten.
Farewell Geocities. We thank you for what you did for us.
